IAPA, the ILLINOIS ASPHALT PAVEMENT ASSOCIATION, has been serving as an industry resource and a vital communications channel for those involved in virtually every facet of the asphalt industry in Illinois, since our founding in 1938. Originally the organization was known as the Illinois Bituminous Distributors. The name was changed in 1941 to the Illinois Blacktop Roads Association, to more accurately reflect the nature of our constituency. Ultimately renamed the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association in 1967.

Mission:

The MISSION of the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association is to:

Promote the improvement and advancement of quality asphalt pavement construction in Illinois

  Provide assistance to members in the areas of research, technical specifications, environmental issues, education, promotion, government relations, and other related areas;

Educate potential buyers and specifiers of asphalt pavements as to the pavement’s characteristics and benefits.

Accomplishments:

Worked with IDOT to develop Perpetual Pavement demonstration projects around the state.
Partnered with the Asphalt Pavement Alliance to tout the benefits of perpetual pavements.
Continued our efforts to improve the quality control and utilization of RAP in urban areas.
Convinced IDOT to support research at the University of Illinois to investigate the limiting strain concept central to perpetual pavements.
Continued our efforts to have IDOT incorporate user delay costs in their pavement selection process.
Worked with IDOT to formulate a rubblization design and policy that will save the taxpayers money and save the traveling public time.
Contributed to support our industry's Environmental Defense Fund.
Continued efforts to educate local governments on the proper use of SuperPave specifications.
Advanced industry interest through participation in the IDOT-Industry Policy Committee and Joint Co-op.
Maintained nine students on scholarship at three universities.
Continued to push for the expanded use of SMA to extend the life of HMA surfaces.
Sponsored HMA conferences at both the University of Illinois and Bradley University.

AND ONCE AGAIN...

Worked to assure that quality HMA remains the dominant product for both the construction and rehabilitation of Illinois roadways.
